Museum Events for 2008!
Following is a listing of the upcoming events for 2008. We hope you make the Cheyenne Depot a destination this year!
Each of the programs will be presented on Tuesday evenings to continue "Cultural Tuesdays" in the Depot lobby. With standardized dates, the general public has come to expect a free arts program in the Depot lobby on most Tuesdays and inquire as to the schedule of the Tuesday programs.

Cheyenne Ribfest 2008
The Cheyenne Kiwanis Club presents the 2nd annual Ribfest at the Cheyenne Depot Plaza all weekend long September 5th through the 7th. There’s going to be live bands, a car show, farmers market, kids play area and so much more. Delicious ribs, chicken, pulled pork, brisket and all the sides prepared by professional World Champion Bar-B-Que teams. Join us in Cheyenne for the 2nd Annual Ribfest. You’ll be in Hog Heaven. Friday, September 5th 1pm - 11pm, Saturday, September 6th 11am -11pm, and Sunday September 7th 11am-8pm.

This event features authentic German food, German bands and dancers. On Friday night, the Willkommen Reception will be held in the lobby of the Cheyenne Depot. On Saturday, German foods, beers, entertainment, craft and specialty vendors will be offered.

Lighting of Cheyenne's Christmas Tree & Plaza
Saturday, November 22
This event features a Gingerbread Contest, singing Christmas carols in the Plaza and lighting the numerous Plaza decorations and the Cheyenne’s downtown Christmas tree.

Santa Claus Visits the Depot

Vendors will be in the lobby selling Christmas crafts and gifts, jewelry, art and other novelties. A visit from Santa Claus the Cheyenne Depot lobby, Tea Among the Trees and a Children’s Tea are scheduled.

Past Museum Events of 2008!
We have so many exciting things going on every year, and many of them are recurring. You can expect the following in 2009!

Literary and Historical Series
Area authors, historians, storytellers and re-enactors will be invited to give one-hour lectures or performances. Topics may include cowboy poetry, railroad history, Cheyenne history, the building of the transcontinental railroad and the connection of the railroad and Fort D.A. Russell (FE Warren AFB). Other topics of interest may include Indian folklore, European History and other subjects as requested. Six performances were offered in January and February of 2008.
Young Talent Series
This exciting series brought performing groups to the Depot lobby from the junior high schools, senior high schools, Laramie County Community College, the University of Wyoming the community at large. The Young Talent Series gave these performing groups the opportunity to showcase their abilities to gain performance experience. Performances included the Kiwanis Stars of Tomorrow winners, dance students from local dance studios, the All-City Children's Choir, the Cheyenne Youth Orchestra and many others that delighted local audiences. Eight performances were offered in March and April of 2008.

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta
This event featured authentic Mexican food, Hispanic bands, dancers, and craft vendors in the Cheyenne Depot lobby and on the Depot Plaza. It was held the weekend of Cinco de Mayo.

Cheyenne Depot Garden Festival
This annual event was held in mid-May. The Master Gardeners and the Cheyenne Depot Museum partnered to host this free-to-the-public event. The Master Gardeners’ Plant Sale was in the Depot Plaza on Saturday with specials throughout the day. Hundreds of annuals, perennials, vegetables and garden art pieces were offered for sale. Garden Bargains of gently used garden tools, books, magazines and other treasures were also available. Free lectures were held in the Depot lobby throughout the day. Sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority.

Cheyenne Depot Museum’s Depot Days
This railroad celebration was held Memorial Day Weekend! Cheyenne Depot Days is an annual event celebrating Cheyenne’s railroad history and the Union Pacific Steam Operation located in the Union Pacific Main Yard in Cheyenne.
With over 140 years of railroad history, Cheyenne's development as a community paralleled the growth of the railroad. Cheyenne Depot Days will help to educate area families about our railroad history and is sponsored by Holiday Inn Cheyenne and the Downtown Development Authority.
Friday - The Cheyenne Depot Museum invited Union Pacific employees (current and retired) and Union Pacific Historical Society to come in and see the Cheyenne Depot Museum for free. The Rocky Mountain Division Train Collectors Association will displayed an outstanding model railroad in the lobby of the Cheyenne Depot, which has been placed on display all over the country. A special temporary exhibit was in the lobby describing the connection between the military and the railroad. Wilbur Craig’s works were also on display in the Depot lobby, as one of America’s most unique and talented artists, creating a distinct niche in the art world. He makes “Wooden Art In Motion”. Wilbur magically transforms planks of wood into miniature trains, tractors, airplanes, bulldozers, and much more; all have moving parts and can be disassembled. Vendors had their wares on display in the Cheyenne Depot lobby. A FREE CONCERT for the community was held on the Cheyenne Depot Plaza, kicking off Cheyenne Depot Days and events on the Depot Plaza.
Saturday ~ The Hobo Breakfast was served to the community, with biscuits and gravy, coffee, juice and milk enjoyed by all. The Memorial Day Parade was held from 17 th and Carey and travels down Capitol Avenue . The Lions' Train offered family rides after the parade . A military equipment display was exhibited on the Cheyenne Depot Plaza . Also, it wasDollar Day at the Cheyenne Depot Museum. The Rocky Mountain Division Train Collectors Association continued to exhibit their model railroad display in the Cheyenne Depot lobby, along with vendors in the lobby.
Union Pacific Steam Crew offered a free open house to the 1931 Round House . The Union Pacific Mini Train gave family rides during this time, and the UP Souvenir Car was open. Several pieces of heritage equipment was on display both in and out of the Round House. In addition, the Sherman Hills Railroad Club displayed and operated their H O Gauge model railroad.
A Railroad Vendor Show was on display with model railroad items for sale in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Cheyenne. Holiday Inn Cheyenne is the primary sponsor of Cheyenne Depot Days. The public was invited to come and learn about model railroading and the different types of size of model railroads at the Railroad Vendor Show.
Sunday ~ The Rocky Mountain Division Train Collectors Association exhibited their model railroad display along with vendors in the lobby. And the Union Pacific Steam Crew continue the open house of the Round House .
